The Artichoke

9 Market Square, Amersham HP7 0DF, UK – 01494 726611

The staff was very accommodating and friendly from the point which we arrived. Each dish was very well presented and thought out. We have an eight course tasting menu. it held its own next to you some of the Michelin restaurants which we have visited. Front of house stuff is fully French, and the restaurants had an air of elegance. The one sommelier was wonderful, opposed to doing a full wine flight we went for a large glass each. He helped us figure out exactly which flavors would be to our likings and best accompany the entire meal. He really knew his wines! A little work could be done on their cocktail making skills. This was the one area which my husband and I were slightly disappointed and confused. Luckily the cocktails were not representative of the meal which followed.

Let me start by saying that for the last 4 years this has been our favourite restaurant, so much so that we always have the same table, and it's even where I proposed to my (soon to be) wife. Having visited 4 - 5 times a year I feel were have had a good variety of the menu over the years, and the food remains brilliant to this day. What has changed though it the level of service, which has gone from such a personal and close connection to what felt like just general table service. The staff were all polite and professional, but it wasn't the same. The level of care, the small touches like redressing a crumpled napkin, and showing interest in the customers, etc has faded over time. What struck me the most though during our recent visit was not only have the prices increased, but we recieved less for our money. - No petite fours with tea/coffee which has always been standard. - Cheese plate had only three cheeses, reduced from the previous four or five selection. No berries, grapes, celery etc. - My dessert (the Blueberries) was a huge let down, especially when compared to the beautiful tortes and soufflaits I've had in the past. This is not to say that the foot was not delicious, the octopus was a real highlight, but the overall experience just lacked the spark which I had always felt in being there. Not sure if this was an off day, or the general new direction of the restaurant. Feel terrible for giving this feedback, but hope the owners will take it as a way to address concerns, and not to mark down on what has always in the past been a great experience. Nick

Rumbles Pantry

6-8 Church Street, Chesham HP5 1HT, UK – 01494 793380

What lovely lady served me, great food. Nice atmosphere, I’ll eat here next time I pass this way for sure 😜

Quality and service second to none,The owners and staff go the extra mile. Highly recommended.

Restaurant Village Mangal

13 Hill Ave, Amersham HP6 5BD, UK – 01494 729055

great food, always fresh and great value. Serve bread, sauces and balsamic type onions complimentary so careful with a starter. Usually have the chicken shish which is delicious with fresh salad and rice but all food freshly cooked and tasty. Staff great as well, book as usually busy.

While walking in the heavy rain one night last week, I stumbled on this restaurant by chance. Needed to sit out the rain somewhere, I went in and, so as to be polite, I ordered a small takeaway. The staff were very courteous, despite my soaking wet shoes. At home, I found the food was excellent; a real treat. So I give it 4 star and a bit. I felt the £19.99 was a bit dear for what I had - but who cares about money when you're having fun. ****/*

Best Reviewed Indian Restaurants and Takeaways in Chesham Bois or in Amersham area

Spice Society

17 Whielden St, Amersham HP7 0HU, UK – 01494 729909

Indian restaurant and food as it used to be. That's not to imply that it's old-fashioned but simply feels authentic. The food is delicious but slightly hotter than you might be expecting. Being one of the old houses in the Old Town it is quite cramped but that adds to the atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

My favourite Indian in the area - service great, food usually great but can sometimes be variable (my favourite butter chicken was like the real thing, but a couple of times recently its been like that sugary stuff you get elsewhere)

The Coriander

Metro Court, Station Approach, Amersham HP6 5AZ, UK – 01494 726370

Think that this Resteraunt have changed there chef as the food has vastly improved. It used to be very salty but is much better now, great value if you eat there on a Sunday lunchtime & pick the buffet.

Fantastic Food, staff are very friendly, Elvis night was such great fun.

The Raj Gate

20-22 The Broadway, Amersham HP7 0HP, UK – 01494 434784

After exploring and trying the majority of the Indian restaurants in the local area I can honestly say that I enjoyed this place the most. The place is very cosy and relaxing. The food was great with a varied selection of meals suitable for all. The meal i had was lovely from the standard poppadoms at the beginning to the dessert. The staff were attentive and very friendly and knew what to recommend from the menu. Will definitely be returning once back in the area.

We didn't eat there - we were outside the restaurant next to our car and my little girl randomly started being sick on the street (perfect timing...), turned out to be a sick bug. A waiter from Raj Gate quickly appeared and gave us a bottle of water for her and was really nice. I've since eaten there and had a great meal too. Really nice guys.

A really quirky restaurant/bar only a few minutes walk away from Amersham train station. The menu is extremely varied and suitable for all with its variation. The beer selection is minimal however some of its selection is local brewed which is always a plus for me. The staff are very friendly and attentive, a really nice and more importantly different place to visit. Will definitely be returning!.

Good value food and drinks, spacious seating areas. Relaxed environment. Some board games etc. available. Nice range of drinks, too.

Amersham Vegetarian or Vegan Restaurants

Côte Brasserie - Amersham

27 The Broadway, Amersham HP7 0HL, UK – 01494 722314

Took my family for an afternoon meal to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The service was excellent. Great staff and manager welcomed us and we were sat in a lovely booth. Perfect to contain the children. Food was excellent. Recommend the Calamari to start. We will be back. Thanks for a nice afternoon!

Had an evening out here a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised at the whole experience. I had the chef's special and it was excellent, service and recommendations were spot on.

The Swan Inn

122 High St, Amersham HP7 0ED, UK – 01494 727079

We had a family meal in the Swan this weekend, and had a very enjoyable visit. The food was excellent - really tasty and well presented, a nice menu, including a separate vegan menu (which I chose my main course from, and it was lovely!). Service was great from Melinda, who is so friendly and also extremely knowledgeable about all the different dishes on the menu. Something we really appreciated was that the room was quite small, with perhaps 6 or 7 tables, so nice and quiet, despite it being full. It's not a cheap eat at the Swan, but food choice and quality was excellent, and we'd definitely plan to go back if we're in Amersham again.

Delighted to have found this place whilst visiting Old Amersham. Great fresh food, friendly staff, nice setting, plenty of outside seating. Unrestricted parking in street as well as having a good size car park. Can't fault the place. Old Amersham delightful.

Gilbey's Old Amersham

Gilbeys Restaurant, 1 Market Square, Amersham HP7 0DF, UK – 01494 727242

Lovely venue, attentive staff and great food. The Special Menu on a Monday is especially good value and absolutely delightful.

Very charming staff and incredibly accommodating chef, just struggle to find food to my taste! The major let down is the tables and chairs! It's looks and feels like garden furniture. Not particularly comfortable. All a bit twee, but incredibly popular with locals.

The Elephant And Castle

97 High St, Amersham HP7 0DT, UK – 01494 721049

I booked here today for mothers day and I must say the set menu was amazing. The food was cooked to perfection. Really enjoyed the atmosphere in the pub. All the staff were very friendly and made the meal even better. They had a magician going round the tables which was a great bonus to a fabulous meal. Will defiantly be returning in the future.

Lovely pub with some great staff. We've been here a few times with our children. The food is very good (and the new menu has got the thumbs-up), the drinks on offer are good, and the young staff are generally very professional - observant, thoughtful, and eager to help.

The White Lion

White Lion Rd, Amersham, Little Chalfont, Amersham HP7 9LJ, UK – 01494 762195

A really nice and relaxing place to visit. The drinks selection is varied with a good selection for all tastes. The food menu is also very varied with traditional pub food on offer, I went on a Monday and they were also offering pizzas also, We had one which was great with very good flavours!. The pub is also a good place to watch sport with multiple TV's scattered across the building which is always a thumbs up for me!. Will definitely be returning once I am back in the area.

Lovely local pub that has been modernised and appeals to all ages. Brilliant customer service and it is on my door step!!!

The Eagle Pub - Amersham

145 High St, Amersham HP7 0DY, UK – 01494 725262

Lovely pub in a beautiful location. We stopped by for a drink and something to eat. Their lunchtime menu is really cheap, only £8.50 for two courses. We left satisfied and will be returning next time we are in the area.

A classic old Amersham pub. Been here many times over the years. Now they are servicing thai food also with a vege tofu option, which I would recommend. Plenty of choice for beers. Nice beer garden for the summer months. No smoking inside.
